Suitcases and Sanctuary

Suitcases and Sanctuary is a site specific exhibition exploring the history of the waves of immigration that shaped Spitalfields, seen through the eyes of today's children. It is the story of one area, the story of London, and the story of the making of multicultural Britain.

We created the exhibition in collaboration with nine and ten year old children, from six local schools, who worked with actors, poets and artists to discover and celebrate the richness of our shared past.

A rare opportunity to see inside this unique immigrant site, not at present normally open to the public. This magical Grade II* listed building, a Huguenot silk merchant's home and hidden Victorian synagogue, captures the imagination of all who cross its dusty threshold.
